Jacob is Crawling!

For the past week or so Jacob has been moving in circles, backwards and making slight movements forward but today it all came together! Since I've gotten burned in the past on his milestones (no, he still hasn't said Mama again - we obviously made that up....) I wanted to make sure he crawled multiple times to multiple places before I proclaimed it to the world.

The whole scene is actually quite hilarious, not because of his form, but because he is really not enjoying himself. At this point, Jacob sees crawling as his way to get to me so he can then push/pull up, take my fingers, and walk. I video taped him crawling and it is so funny because I am screaming "Yay!!!!!" and being all excited and Jacob is whining the entire time. Hopefully, he'll start finding the joy in crawling soon!

The Bumper is Back

I've discovered the purpose of a bumper pad. It is a paci keeper. Without a bumper pad pacis end up in all sorts of places- under the crib, behind the crib, wedged under the crib mirror, across the room, etc. It really is quite amazing that Jacob can start with 4 pacifiers in the bed with him at 7:30pm and at 2:00am they have all mysteriously disappeared. This mommy is tired of going on paci treasure hunts in the middle of the night so the bumper pad has been welcomed back into the crib.

My parents kept Jacob on Friday night while Jimmy and I celebrated Jimmy's 31st birthday and my poor mother had the same problem. At midnight Jacob woke up because he couldn't find his paci in the crib. My mom searched and searched and ended up having to pull the crib out from the wall where she finally found the paci. After all the ruckus Jacob thought it was play time and my poor mother was up for 2 hours with him in the middle of the night. She assures me that he was being really cute and sweet but regardless she gets major brownie points for that one. She is such a great Nana! Needless to say I'll be reattaching the bumper pad at her house as well.

I'm a little concerned that Jacob is going to use the bumper pad as a springboard to escape the crib but I'm going to take my chances for now. Plus, the crib does look so much cuter with it on anyway. :)

On Saturday, we had our neighbors over to watch football and have dinner. The kids were all decked out in their respective SEC gear. Needless to say Jacob wasn't in the mood to have his picture taken. I'd like to think it's because he was upset he was in red and not orange....

Week of Firsts

Last Saturday Jacob uttered the most precious words ever - Mama! :) Granted, he was whining and sounded quite distressed but, nonetheless, he said Mama while looking at me with outstretched arms. I have witnesses (Jimmy and my mom) but he hasn't said it again so now I'm second guessing our listening skills. I've debated making him really upset to see if that might spark him to shout out Mama again but have obviously concluded that's just plain mean.

This week Jacob started planning his escape route from the crib prompting us to move his mattress down. He's started rolling onto his tummy to sleep which is pretty ironic since a mere week ago you would have thought I was pulling out his toenails when I put him on his stomach. We now hear playful screams before and after naps and bedtime and find him in the crawling position with a mischievous look on his face when we go to get him.

Jacob sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time and did very well with the exception of knocking a glass jar of baby food onto the tile floor. Lovely. I was reminded that all things breakable should be placed at least 10 feet from my son's "Go, Go, Gadget Arms" and that I should only pack plastic baby food containers in the future. Ah, more lessons in mommyhood.

On Thursday, Jacob and I started Kindermusik which is a Mommy and Me class. Here is a picture of Jacob and his new buddies, Eli and Parker. I think Jacob and I are both going to really enjoy the class!

Jacob hasn't tried to walk on his own again since those first couple of steps but he's getting good at cruising and is standing by himself for a few seconds at a time. He's also picked up a lot of speed when walking with our assistance.

Jacob's First Trip to Raleigh

We traveled to Raleigh over Labor Day weekend to visit Jimmy's dad. Jimmy's grandma, aunt, uncle, brother, sister-in-law, and niece all made the trip as well. We had a great time! Here are a few pictures from our trip.

Jacob's First Step??

Last Wednesday (August 26th) Jacob was having a great time standing and decided to let go of my hands. He stood by himself for about 2 seconds and then proceeded to step forward, hold his balance for a second or two more, and then come tumbling down. It was quite exciting and difficult to determine who was more excited between Jacob and me! I'm not sure if this constitutes his first step or not since it was literally only one step and he is still working on getting into the standing position on his own. However, I guess we'll count it for now. He's done the same thing a couple of times since then but hasn't made it any further.

In the past few days Jacob has also started the beginning stage of cruising. He is taking a few steps using the coffee table, his musical table, and/or the leather bench. It is so fun to watch him and he thinks he is such hot stuff!

Weekend of Celebrating

My parents celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary on Friday, August 28th with a family dinner at Valentino's. We decided to bring Jacob along as the reservation was near his bedtime and crossed our fingers that he would take his bottle and drift off to slumber. I'm sure it shocks no one that Jacob had different plans. He happily took his bottle but sleep was the furthest thing from his mind. At the first sign of fussiness I took him out of the dining room in fear of disturbing others. The rest of the dinner we all took turns trying to get Jacob to sleep while he was busy checking everyone and everything out. Thankfully he was very sweet as long as we didn't have him in his carrier and he was quite the hit with the restaurant staff. However, needless to say, this will be Jacob's last fine dining experience for a long time.

Happy 38th Anniversary Mom and Dad!

Saturday morning Claire and I drove down to Atlanta to surprise Anne Marie for her birthday. She was completely shocked and we had such a wonderful girlie day! Anne Marie's husband, Brad, treated us to manicures and pedicures and then we went out for Mexican. This was the first time I've left Jimmy with Jacob overnight and I am happy to report they both did well. I am also happy to report that my sweet husband became even more appreciative of me after being Mr. Mom for the weekend.
