Jacob's First Trip to Nanny's
Jacob, Mom, and I ventured down to Bowman, Georgia June 11-15th to visit family. Normally the car ride takes approximately 6 1/2 hours. However, the trip took 9 hours due to bad weather, Bonnaroo, Atlanta rush hour, and Jacob's eating schedule. Our first pit stop was a few miles before Manchester. It was pouring down rain and the gas station had shut down their bathrooms and had Porta Johns in the parking lot because of Bonnaroo. (For those of you who don't know, Bonnarroo is a music festival held on a rural Tennessee farm that attracts drugs and people who don't like to use indoor plumbing.) The gas station attendent was not sympathetic to us having a baby in the rain so we got to use the same facilities as the questionable Bonnaroo clientelle. Lovely.....
Our next stop was because of the terrible weather - we literally could not see the road ahead of us. We pulled off at a gas station and were refused the bathroom once again because the electricity was off. You would think a baby and grandmother would up your chances on people being nice but you'd be wrong! After all this hooplah we hit Atlanta at 4:30pm so Mom and I got to remember the joys of rush hour in Atlanta. Fortunately we made it safely to Nanny's and had a wonderful few days visiting with family and introducing Jacob to the family members he hadn't met.

Jacob's First Trip to the Beach
My parents rented a house on the beach at Amelia Island from May 30 - June 6. This trip marked our first "vacation" with Jacob. We had a wonderful time and Jacob did great with all of his adventures. We started saying Jacob wasn't going to like the word "adventure" since every few hours we told him he was going on a new one! Thankfully he enjoyed all of his adventures, which included "walking" on the beach and putting his feet in the ocean, with the exception of dining at an Italian restaraunt. (Every time we took him into the restaraunt he cried so we had to take turns strolling him around downtown until he was finally lulled to sleep.) Here are a few of the many pictures we took during the week.

Jacob was more interested in "walking" on the table than on the sand

Jacob's First Flight!
On Saturday, May 30th Jacob took his first flight! We went from Nashville to Jacksonville for a vacation on Amelia Island. Jacob was fantastic on the flight and received a "First Flight" certificate from Southwest. :) Here we are at the gate before the flight and on the plane.
