Conversations with Jacob

I had plans to ask Jacob some questions about his likes and dislikes on his birthday but didn't get around to it. Anna was sleeping in this morning and Daddy was working in the office so Jacob and I were having some great alone time together and I decided to ask him some questions.

1. What is your favorite color? I like blue! Really? I thought green was your favorite, hmm. I like green and orange and purple and I like black and I like red and I like yellow. All of these (pointing to cans of paint in a workbook) are my favorite colors.
2. What is your favorite toy? I like the lawnmower!
3. What is your favorite song? "I love Daddy, I love Daddy, yes I do!" This is a song he made up to the tune of "Are You Sleeping". How sweet is that?
4. What is your favorite food? Ice cream!!!!
5. Where is your favorite place to go? zoo
6. What is your favorite animal at the zoo? The elephants. I also like giraffes, monkeys, and parrots.
7. What is your favorite piece of clothing to wear? soccer balls (he has a soccer ball shirt)
8. What is your favorite book? The firefighter book with Edward and Judy and dalmation dogs.
9. What is your favorite thing to play on at the playground? I like to play with shovels and dig up dirt and put it in the composter and then dump it in the garden and watch my flowers grow. (He loves to play with rakes and shovels and move the mulch around at his school playground and I guess he's picked up on composting from Curious George!)

After 9 questions he told me he was done and ready to watch Curious George. I love my sweet boy!

Anna is 15 Months Old!

Our sweet Anna was 15 months old on January 31st. She is SUCH A JOY! Anna had another great doctor's appointment although she was MAD when she was given her shots! Anna is now 30 1/2 inches long (50th percentile) and weighs 22 lbs (25th-50th percentile).

Anna has such a playful personality and cute sense of humor. She loves playing peek-a-boo, hiding, and trying to get you to chase her and tickle her. Anna loves climbing into and sitting in "kid" chairs and climbing up on Jacob's bed. She thinks it is super fun to stand on Jacob's bed, jump in the air and land on her bottom boucing on the mattress. I put a stop to that REAL QUICK! She's now learned to enjoying crawling around his bed and "sliding" down the mattress to the floor. Anna is very agreeable and listens when I tell her no....for now.
Anna loves, loves, loves baby dolls! She loves hugging them, pushing them in strollers, and carrying them around. Every time we drop Jacob off at school she runs over to the babies and brings them to me. She is so cute with her babies and especially loves the one we gave her for her first birthday. Anna also loves balls, riding on cars, push toys, and taking things out of containers and putting a few things back. Here Anna is riding on the car with her baby!
Anna loves being outside and often walks to the back door to "request" that we go outside . She loves to swing, slide, explore, and be on stroller or trike rides . She has recently discovered sidewalk chauk and bubbles and thinks both are super fun!

Anna's not too into books these days as she'd much rather be exploring. About half the time she enjoys books before bed and especially likes "Mirror Me", her books with one word and picture, "touch and feel" books, and those with peek-a-boo flaps.

Anna is happy to give kisses when requested and in response to all the kisses we give her. She's also starting to initiate giving kisses first especially when I'm taking her to bed. Here she is giving Jacob a kiss! She's such a sweet girl!

Anna continues to be a "Mommy's Girl" but also loves her Daddy, Jacob, and Nana. She's also really warmed up to Gramps and Uncle David in the past month and is doing much better at the church nursery. She screams like crazy when we drop her off but they assure us that she stops after a few minutes and has a good time playing until she sees parents coming in to pick up their little ones.

Anna thinks it is so funny to offer a piece of food to me and then right before I chomp on it, take it away, stick it in her mouth, and laugh. She's a great eater and enjoys most veggies and fruits but especially loves her carbs. Her favorites are Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares, cinnamon raisin english muffins, pasta, and the occassional sweet treat.

Anna sleeps 12-13 hours at night and takes one nap lasting 1.5-3 hours. She sleeps with a paci in her mouth, a paci in her hand and her baby beside her. She also has her bear, piggy, T-Bone, and Cheer Bear in her crib. When she wakes in the morning she loves to lay around for awhile or sit up and play with her baby and animals. We've learned she likes having her alone time and does not want to us to get her until she stands up in her crib and starts "talking" to us.

Anna is becoming quite the communicator! She says Mommy, Daddy, Jacob (well, something I know is Jacob), Nana, baby, ball, boy, and mine. She shakes her head no, walks to the refrigerator and calls to me when she wants her milk, waves bye-bye if she is ready to go to sleep and we're still playing, and takes me to the diaper wipes if she has a really stinky diaper. Anna also loves gabbing gibberish and I'm pretty confident she is going to be quite chatty once she gets talking down.

Our sweet Anna is so much fun and we are so excited about getting to know more of her personality as she grows. We love, love, love our Anna!!!

Jacob is Three!

Our sweet Jacob turned 3 on January 8th! Jacob is growing up to be the most wonderful little boy and we feel so blessed that we are his parents! He is 39 inches tall (90th percentile) and 32 lbs (50th percentile) and continues to be a healthy boy.

Jacob has such a sweet spirit and we are amazed at Jacob's thoughtfulness and sweetness with his family. He initiates sharing toys and food and makes sure everyone has a turn. Jacob gives great hugs and sometimes asks to hold my hand just walking around the house. He is so sweet and cute! He loves for us to dance and for me to hold him and spin him around. Jacob loves to wrestle and play chase with Daddy and tells us often that he doesn't like Daddy going to work because he wants him home with him.

Jacob loves his Nana and is constantly asking to go to her house. He loves exploring her house, riding in her car to go on adventures and just being with her! Jacob and I were taking a Mommy & Me gymnastics class but he quickly gave me the boot in favor of Nana coming with him.

We were joking about Jacob going to Harvard and my dad said that was too far away and that Jacob should go to Vanderbilt instead. A few nights later Vanderbilt was on television and Daddy said to Jacob that Vanderbilt was where Gramps would like him to go to college and asked him if he'd like to go there. Jacob said "Yes....if Gramps is going with me. Gramps is my favorite friend." Too cute!

Jacob's favorite toys are his Lego's and tools (especially his drill, screwdrivers and flashlights). He loves helping out with projects around the house and is fascinated with figuring out how things work and are put together. If we had to predict his future career we'd say he'll be an engineer. Jacob also loves big trucks and we talk about them almost constantly in the car.

Jacob's favorite book is Curious George. The book has eight different stories and we read at least two Curious George stories a day. Other books he loves include "Firehouse", "Big Trucks", "Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site", "Clifford", "Yummy Yummy", and "Maxwell Mouse". Jacob has discovered the joy of television and his favorite show is overwhelmingly Curious George. He also enjoys "Caillou", "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse", and "Little Einsteins".

Jacob's imagination has really blossomed in the past few months and it is so fun to see! He loves "eating" all the chocolates in the "Curious George Visits a Chocolate Factory" and is always so serious when "sharing his chocolates" with us. He loves making forts out of pillows and "fixing" things with his tools all around the house.

Jacob sleeps 11 hours at night and does not take a nap. Bedtime is fairly easy since he is exhausted by the end of the day. We snuggle and read four stories and then sing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" while tucking him into bed. He sleeps with his owl (which has a soft glow and plays music), "Brown Bear" and "Coffee Bear" every night.

Jacob is potty trained! We waited until right after he turned three and the process went very well. He has "Cars", "Mickey Mouse", and "Thomas the Train" big boy underwear and is quite opinionated on which pair he wears.

I could write a book about how wonderful Jacob is and all the things he is into these days! Not only do we love Jacob because he is our precious little boy but we love spending our days with him. He has such a sweet and fun personality and is so enjoyable to be around. We are so blessed and are so excited about continuing to watch our precious Jacob grow!

We celebrated Jacob's birthday with two parties - a kids' gymnastics party and then a family party at home. As expected, he was very excited about having two parties! The theme was easy to determine since Jacob LOVES Curious George!

My mom and I made these monkey cupcakes for the parties.
Jacob (and Daddy) spent lots of time in the block pit. He had such a great time!

Anna also had a BLAST and wanted to do EVERYTHING!

Guess who else had a blast? The big boys :)

After a lot of hard play it was time to take a quick rest with Gramps

The final activity was the parachute - so fun!

They wrapped us up in the parachute and spinned us around!

Cake and ice cream time!

Jacob had such a fun time at his gymnastics party on Saturday and was geared up for another fun celebration on Sunday (his actual birthday)!

Anna was quite excited about another party too, especially when she saw a chocolate cupcake was involved!

Anna was very interested in the presents and wasn't sure why we were waiting to open them!

Jacob racked up on gifts from the family! He was especially excited to receive a big tool set complete with a power drill!

Clifford and an accompanying book was also a big hit!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Jacob! We love you!!
